(7) Waves of Americanization
- from Gun and Chocolate to Jeans and Cake -
More than half part of Tokyo was burn down by the bombing during world war II. General Head Quater commanded by General Macarhur brought Japan democratization in every social system with chewing gum and chocolate.
This is a begining of Americanization.

after the Korean war, depressed Japanese economy began to recover and very soon surpassed economic level before World War II.The more Japanese got rich.the more Japanese got American like.

(8) Waves of Globalization
- Tokyo in Near Future as Global City -

I want to talk about the Trasportation Revolution which is greater than the Industrial Revolution.
This is the Transportion Revolution. The world is now rapidly shrinking day by day.Especially, the time and money distance is more important than geographical distance. In this sense, the world's largest pacific Ocean is not a big sea,but only a small lake or pond, som time,a faucet in the bathroom from the view of a space shuttle.

At the same time,a wave of gloablization is surging upward to every state and nation. In order to achive globalization in its true sense, exchange and interaction among various nations must be further promoted, and mutual understanding concerning the tradions and cultures of other countries depended.

The 21st or "the Borderless age" is just around the corner,we must reinforce the collaboration between Japan and overseas counries under the banners of freedom, equality, peace and prosperity.

We can remove the man-made state boudary in terms of politics and economics, because man made it.At same time,we can remove language and cultural barriers between Japan and UM students by the University of Monatana Japanese and Cultural Program '94.

By the way,one congressman of the Kingdom of Tonga in Pacific Ocean told me a very funy story about a drastic change of Cultural sttiude toward food in the Pacific Islands. As you know,pork-neat is prohibited to eat by the Moslems.some Moslems live on the small islands.Once upon a time,a very sophisticated Christian missionary said,"my lovely Pork, you are a kind of fish.I'll give you a new name PORK-FISH,I'll call you PORK-FISH from now on.We can eat and taste PORK-FISH forever.A'mesn...God bless you!". We can live beyond the cultural fence here and there, because the cultual fence is only man-made.

I have a dream. It's a big dream forcusing on the 21st century.Shall we become cosmopolites which means the citizen of the world in Greek?

Shall we live together as global villagers in the spaceship "the GBLOBE(※"GLOBE"の誤植?)"? Of course, Japanese should unlock the homegenoeous and cohesive society to the world. Why Japanese society is homegeneous and cohesive? How can I unlock it?
